Vodafone have released a new SME tariff, which basically allows business an “all you can eat” type tariff. The Vodafone Business Tariff - Wireless Office Control offers businesses a much greater choice and will seriously bring down mobile phone bills, which is great during a recession.

This new tariff will probably appeal to companies with more than 5 phones on their account, due mainly to the €250 per month Customer Level Rental (the company basically). On top of that however, there is a €25 per month charge per subscription.

What you get for your €25 per month per subscription is free calls to all landlines and mobiles anywhere in Ireland. This will appeal to a lot of business, as this gives them access to any number they may ring for only €25 per month.

For an additional €10 per month per subscription, you can have an unlimited Text Add On, to text any network. For another €10 per month, there is also an International Voice Add On, giving unlimited voice calls abroad.

The company has complete freedom as to who can and cannot get the Add Ons above. By giving this freedom, an Add On will not have to be given to a subscription which may not need it, and in doing so increase the spend.

It is important to note, all prices are ex VAT.

Vodafone, Ireland’s largest mobile phone provider has announced that the Blackberry Storm was their number one selling handset over the Christmas period. But that’s not all they announced, Vodafone now have an amazing 102,000 mobile broadband users!

But is this news of the great success of the Storm have some bad news instore for Vodafone. Many people have reported bugs with their versions of the hugely popular handset. Many of the previous bugs have been resolved with a software patch in December. Although this is not a unique problem, with Apple having the same issue with early versions of the iPhone.

RIM just about made the shipping deadline, will this create a major problem for Vodafone? Only time will tell, but as it was their number one seller over the Christmas period, it may indeed come back to bite them in the ass!

If your a skilled developer and want to earn a little extra pocket money, then why not try and create an application which may bag you £50,000. Vodafone are offering this to whoever creates the best application for the Blackberry Storm.

The winner will not only receive the money, but their creation will be availible to users via the Blackberry Application Center.

Should you be unfortunate enough to come second or third, then you will pocket £15,000 and £5,000 respectably. However, as it says in the T&C’s, Vodafone will own the rights to all of the winners applications so read through them carefully. You can enter through the German Vodafone site.

The Irish postal service, An Post and Vodafone have agreed a MVNO or Mobile Virtual Network Opertor alliance. This is another new avenue of revenue An Post seem to have adapted to try and increase revenue. It will concentrate on the prepay mobile phone sector.

An Post will purchase capacity and capabilities from the Vodafone Newtork. This will provide An Post with their own branded products which they will sell from their retail channels.

Charles Butterworth, chief executive of Vodafone said, “An Post’s MVNO will be able to draw on the strengths of two of the most recognisable brands in Ireland – Vodafone’s superior network and technology and An Post’s retail strength”.

Recently, An Post has diversified and introduced banking facilities in their branches, which is very handy seeing as they are open on Saturday while most banks are closed at the weekend.

This agreement is also similar to the alliance Tesco and O2 have in place, with the Tesco branded handsets running off the O2 network.

The recession seems to be hitting Vodafone hard as they announced during the week that they will be cutting some 170 jobs in Ireland. Vodafone, Ireland’s largest mobile operator said that the job loses will be “voluntary”.

Falling average revenue per user (ARPU) are being felt by all providers, as people are being more careful with their money. There has also been a shift of people moving off postpay contract deals with the networks, back onto prepay deals in a bid to save money and more cost efficient.

This “voluntary” redundancies wil take about a month to sort out with staff and unions, with talks expected to start soon.
