The iPhone 3G S is being launched in Ireland on the 26th of June. The new and improved version of the phone which some might argue changed the mobile phone industry will still be an exclusive handset for O2. As of yet, there is no mention of pricing, but more than likely it will be similarly priced to previous versions.

The iPhone 3G S (S is for Speed!) will be available in a 16GB and 32GB version, doing away with the 8GB altogether. Other improvements include a better camera (now a 3.2MP camera). One cool new feature helps you if you lose your new iPhone or if it is stolen. By simply using the Remote Wipe feature, you can wipe all the information stored on your phone, protecting you against someone using your info for some unsavory things!

A report by developer blog Pinch Media has reported that of 30 million iPhone App that are downloaded, very few are used again following download. Very few are even used the next day! Although, 20% of people studied who download free applications, do indeed use them again the next day!

The report also suggests, that if there is a slight decrease in price, demand for that app increases by 130%!!! While an increase will only show a decrease in downloads by 25%.

Pinch Media has hit upon something interesting here. They suggest that only about 5% of apps are suitable for mobile advertising. If you also consider that iTunes themselves say that after 90 days, people still using the same apps is in and around 1%.

Apple last week announced it Q1 sales, showing a 3% increase in the sales of iPods. This relates to over 22 million iPods sold over the holiday quarter. But the most interesting information is the increase on iPhone sales on year-on-year figures. They show that Apple sold 4.363 million handsets over the period of Q1, and this works out at 88% increase in sales from last year.

The huge increase in iPhone sales might not come as too much of a surprise to many people. The cost of iPhone has fallen, with many networks making the handset availible to people on a prepay option and also very cheap when signing up to a contract.

“Even in these economically challenging times, we are incredibly pleased to report our best quarterly revenue and earnings in Apple history—surpassing $10 billion in quarterly revenue for the first time ever,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO.
