According to a press statement, reported by Reuters there are plans afoot to launch the T-Mobile G1 handset in other European countries. The lucky countries are Netherlands, Czech Republic and Austria who should be able to ge their hands on the Google back Anrdoid Smartphone by January 31st. Germany and Poland will have to hold on just a little bit longer, with the G1 becoming availible to them February 2nd. The UK and US already have the handset.

Pricing will have to be pretty competitive, especially as the price of the iPhone continues to drop, making it affordable to more and more people. German buyers should be able to get it for less than €2, but this does involve you signing into a 2 year contract! There is always a downside!

No word on an Irish release, but no doubt we’ll be charged a small fortune compaired to the German’s (or rest of Europe). Watch this space!

According to the BBC, the two main contenders for greatness in 2009 are Nokia 5800 and T-Mobile (or Google’s) G1. These two will soon go head-to-head with the launch of the 5800 soon in the UK while the G1 has already been out for a while.
