Meteor have entered the mobile broadband sector, offering 14.4 Mbps internet connections, meaning all four networks are now competing for your hard earned money. Meteor have launched this as both a Post Pay and Pay as you go option. Having this available on Pay as you go is a good channel to be going down, with people only spending what they have or can afford, this may seem like an attractive offer.
For now, it is only available in the cities of Dublin and Cork, but there are plans to roll this out nationwide during the year. Made by Huawei, who provide modems to all the other networks, it does work on quite a similar process. It is a USB dongle so basically just plugs into your laptop and away you go!
For Pay as you go customers, the price of the modem is €79 in store on €69 for a limited period Meteor online, while Post pay customers pay €29 for the modem. After the there is a €16.99 per month charge, while for Pay as you go, you can have a one day pass for €2.99 or 30 day pass for €19.99.
Meteor say they have done quite amount of testing, to make sure they don’t make the same mistakes 3 had when they first launched their mobile broadband service. At the begining, it was patchey to say the least. They have signed 500 people up since Friday 27th of February, selling quietly in their own stores.
All in all, it looks good. It is a great price for both Pay as you go and Post Pay options. For people who want to just check emails or surf the net now and then, either option sounds ideal.
