Dublin based firm Babelgum and Vodafone have agreed a deal which will see Babelgum providing “Free TV” to contract customers on the Vodafone UK network. This deal only affects UK customers and not be availible to Irish customers.
Customers can watch movie clips, music videos comedy clips, sports and animation free of charge. Initially it will only be availible to customers of certain handsets (Nokia N96, N95 and 6210). They must also have data bundles and must download the Babelgum Mobile application from Vodafone Live!
This sounds good, but music videos availible to be shown are just the “Best of” of a selection of artists such as Coldplay, Robbie Williams and Kings of Leon. Other viewable stuff include web exclusives from Kaiser Chiefs, Franz Ferdinand, BBC comedy (The Officeand The Mighty Boosh), no word on the latest videos in the chart for example. All content is going to be streamed directly to your handset via their 3G network.
Babelgum CEO Valerio Zingarelli stated, ” Babelgum now becomes one of the first Web TV, mobile 3G TV and “free TV” all at the same time
“What sets us apart is that we’re the first independent online television company to cross over into full mobile internet, a truly original application and programming.“Our content offering also reflects the new communication codes of the Web, with fast, fun entertainment that’s enhanced by high-quality, professional production standards,”
Lets hope it comes on stream to us here!
