The Irish postal service, An Post and Vodafone have agreed a MVNO or Mobile Virtual Network Opertor alliance. This is another new avenue of revenue An Post seem to have adapted to try and increase revenue. It will concentrate on the prepay mobile phone sector.

An Post will purchase capacity and capabilities from the Vodafone Newtork. This will provide An Post with their own branded products which they will sell from their retail channels.

Charles Butterworth, chief executive of Vodafone said, “An Post’s MVNO will be able to draw on the strengths of two of the most recognisable brands in Ireland – Vodafone’s superior network and technology and An Post’s retail strength”.

Recently, An Post has diversified and introduced banking facilities in their branches, which is very handy seeing as they are open on Saturday while most banks are closed at the weekend.

This agreement is also similar to the alliance Tesco and O2 have in place, with the Tesco branded handsets running off the O2 network.
