The Samsung i780 is suprising affordable especially as it is a HSPDA-enabled Windows Mobile handset. Already on O2 in Ireland, it is from €349 on prepay! But with its nice price and good looks, is it worth consideration. Well, lets find out shall we?

After playing with this for a few days, the first thing we want to point of is its design. You’ll find out how thin it is. It is only 12.9mm in width, making a handset on a very effective diet! The display is large to say the least. It has a 320 x 320 display. While it clearly takes up most of the front of the handset, there is just enough room underneath for a QWERTY keyboard. The buttons themselves are ok. Nothing special, nothing going to set the world alight but useable.

For features, it has a 2MP camera. However, this camera has no LED flash and no autofocus. This lets the overall camera function down as these have become common place with other manufactorers. Other features include built in GPS with A-GPS support and a fast processor.

One nice part of the Samsung i780 is the directional button. It comes in two modes, 4-way navigation and mouse pointer. The mouse can be used as you would use a mouse with your PC while the 4-way navigation allows you to quickly navigate through application. There is also a stylus compartment above the screen on the top of the handset.

Overall, the Samsung i780 is not a bad handset. For the affordable price and for what it can do it should be a contenter if you want something to just do a job without trying to make a statement. Its worth considering.
